Position
The ideal candidate for the position of Assistant Professor of Sustainable Urbanism in the M.Sc. Program in Islamic Art، Architecture and Urbanism is expected to contribute to the teaching and academic strengths of the M.Sc. Program in Islamic Art، Architecture and Urbanism including the pursuit of research funding and publication in high-standing peer-reviewed academic journals.

The M.Sc. Program in Islamic Art، Architecture and Urbanism is comprehensive in nature as it integrates an all-encompassing approach to the understanding of the built environment and culture of Muslim communities. It addresses the built environment at different scales، ranging from interior spaces and buildings through exterior and urban public spaces to the city. The program represents a unique environment that fosters interdisciplinary thinking and innovation across contexts، expanding the reach and critical capacity of knowledge and practice.

Minimum Knowledge، Skills & Experience
Ph.D. degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in the field of architecture and urbanism.
Minimum 2-5 years of experience in research، professional practice، or a combination of closely related areas in industry (additional years of professional experience may be required to show equivalency)، with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.

Evidence of proficiency in interdisciplinary research Islamic history of art and aesthetics of the Muslim World; research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of assistant professor in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities.
The candidate will teach and conduct research on issues related to the built environment، such as climate، infrastructure، policy، public space and social justice، territorial research، or housing. All candidates should have interest in and capacity for collaboration with other academic disciplines at HBKU.
The candidate will teach Architectural History; Cosmological Thought and Architecture in the Middle East; Topics on Urban Form، Patterns and Aesthetics of Architecture، and Criticism and Discourse; Architectural Design Research Studio; Architectural History Theory and Criticism History; Survey of Urban History.
The candidate will demonstrate excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate fluently and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in English language (Arabic proficiency will be an asset).
The candidate must have proficiency in MS Office applications.

Conduct assigned courses and seminars.
Supervise theses and serve as an advisor to students.
Serve on college committees.
Render services to the professional or lay community.
Conduct research or undertake comparable scholarly activity.
Seek funding support for research.
Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the college.
