JOB SPECIFICATION
Sunday to Wednesday: 7:30am - 2:30pm

Thursday: 7:30am - 1:30pm

 

This Job Description may be adjusted by the Headteacher according to the changing needs of the school. This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

 

Role Summary:

Learning assistants support their teaching and non-teaching colleagues in meeting the needs, educational and social, of all children at Jebel Ali School. This includes general welfare, safety, social and moral needs. 

 

Learning assistants are primarily assigned to a particular year group, under the direct line management of the year group leader. However, as with all things in a busy primary school, it is necessary to be flexible on occasions and adapt to changing needs. 

 

Role Responsibilities:

To assist the class teacher with the day-to-day smooth running of the classroom.

To become familiar with the National Curriculum, English and mathematics strategies, and QCA schemes of work for the year group concerned.

To prepare or source materials and resources as required, for classes/year groups, including the use of reprographic equipment.

To assist with planning and attend weekly planning meetings as required.

To assist in literacy and mathematics lessons as required, taking small groups for specific planned activities in order to help to raise standards of attainment, and in other lessons at the direction of the class teacher and/or year group leader.

To assist the class teacher and/or year group leader with assessments as required.

To assist the class teacher in creating a stimulating and enriched learning environment within the classroom. 

To assist with clothing of small children at the beginning and end of PE lessons and to assist with swimming lessons as required.

To assist with cooking activities, taking careful note of hygiene routines for all children. 

To escort children to the toilet, when necessary, (usually applies only to learning assistants working in our Reception classes).

To escort sick or injured children to the school nurse as necessary.

To supervise children in the playground at the start/end of the day and at break times as required.

To seek to actively support and promote the school through positive public relations and to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all matters relating to school.

To carry out other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time by the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher. 

 

Other duties and responsibilities:

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. The post holder is expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Primary Leadership Team to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description. This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the HT/Line Manager and will be reviewed regularly.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Required:

Minimum of 2 A/levels or equivalent

Must be on spouse or dependent visa


Preferred:

Cache level 3

Previous LA experience  within The National Curriculum for England
